A total of 1,393 of the 2023 Batch ‘C’ Stream I Corps members, including 881 males and 512 females who served in Bauchi state, on Thursday, received their Certificates of National Service having completed the mandatory one year service to fatherland.
During the presentation of the certificates, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) called on all Corps members across the country to build on the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training they received while in Camp amidst the current economic crunch in the country.
Bauchi State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, made the call while handing over the Certificate of National Service to the passing out Corps members.
According to her, “this would not only make you overcome the current economic hardship, but it would also make you employers of labour and contributors to the national economic growth of the country.”
Rifkatu Yakubu added that, “I want to advise you to effectively build on all you have learned in camp and off camp during the NYSC Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme.”
She added that, “Go and practice all the training you have undergone because white collar jobs are no longer available and we all know the situation of the country right now.”
“I want to also urge those that didn’t participate in the SAED programme during the service year that it is not too late. You can still do it,” she said.
Rifkatu Yakubu, who congratulated the Corps members for the successful completion of the service year, called on them not to embark on night journeys on their way back to their various destinations.
She advised that it would be ideal and expected of those traveling far to break the journey into two so as to avoid traveling in the night.
The state Coordinator further admonished them to desist from any form of social vices as its consequences would be inimical to not only themselves, but their families, institution of graduation as well as the NYSC.
“Please, be a good ambassador of the NYSC, the school you graduated from, your families and the country at large,” She advised.
During the ceremony, Kaan Martina Seerdoon with batch number BA/23C/0527 was awarded the Chairman Honours Award of merit.
Most of the Corps members who spoke to Journalists expressed happiness and joy that they came to Bauchi alive, served and are going back to their various families healthy and fulfilled in spite of the myriad of challenges in the country.
They expressed commendation to the various host communities where they found themselves for the primary assignment saying that it was fun all through though there were some moments of being down.
