The Acting Vice Chancellor of the Gombe State University Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta has paid tribute to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya’s unwavering commitment towards the advancement of higher education in the State especially as it affects the State own premier institution.
Professor Yauta gave this indication at a press conference to highlight Governor Inuwa Yahaya uncommon drive towards the overall welfare of the University in general and its staffs in particular.
He describe the recent approval and release of additional 50 million naira on the monthly grant of the University, payment of outstanding allowance of 250 million for part of the 2014 2015 and 2016 Earn Academic Allowances (EAA) as unprecedented.
The Vice Chancellor added that the Gombe State Governor has equally release the sum of N551 million for the take off of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences at the Dukku campus in which academic activities is expected to commence in December this year.
He stated that, “Gentlemen of the Press, it might further interest you to know that the Governor has also released N265 million for the payment of 4 years promotion arrears and another N532 million for the payment of Earn Academic Allowances EAA for 2017 and 2018 to the various unions in the University”
Professor Yauta remarked that these gesture by the Governor Inuwa has not only addressed the long standing issues that have strained relationship between Management and Unions, but sent a clear message that the present administration in the State prioritize education and recognizes the centrality of the academic community.
According to him, “With these interventions, the atmosphere of Goodwill and cooperation that has fostered has pave the way for the immediate resumption of academic activities within the University our students who are the heart beat of the institution can now resume their academic pursuit without further delay”.
To this end, the Vice Chancellor informed parents and guardians that the University Senate has approved the resumption of academic activities effective, Monday the 28th of this month.
