The new BAM market in Dass, headquarters of Dass LGA of Bauchi State has been commissioned in accordance with the promotion of the autonomy of local government administration.
In his address at the commissioning ceremony, the Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Dass Local Government, Comrade Mohammed Abubakar Jibo said that apart from the commissioning of BAM new market, there was a N50,000,000.00 grant empowerment to some selected individuals in the Local Government Area.
He said that, “We thank the almighty Allah for sparing our lives and giving us the opportunity to serve our people. We also thank His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State, Senator Abdulkadir Mohammed (Wazirin Dass) for making it possible to serve our people well through the realization of the Local Government Autonomy in the State.”
According to him,”By this, His Excellency has placed us among the few local governments in Nigeria that operate independently without any interference. This is the secret of our developmental projects in the Local Government.”
The Caretaker Chairman said that, “Today’s occasion is timely, considering the economic hardship being experienced not only in the local government but also the whole state and Nigeria as a whole.”
According to him, “We are here to commission the new BAM New Market to boost economic activity in the local government and distribute some items and money worth the total sum of N50,000,000.00 only to the most needy and vulnerable individuals across the local government.”
He added,”It is our believe that this will help a lot in improving the economic power of these individuals. We also assure our people that more and more of these programmes are on the way, considering the enormous support, opened door policy and total freedom we are receiving from his Excellency the executive governor of Bauchi State.”
Abubakar Jibo added that,”In our accession to power as the Local Government leadership, we have initiated and implemented numerous programmes in the past which are beneficial to our people.”
“These among many other things include: the provision of good and healthy water in some communities, renovations of some dilapidated primary School Structures and provision Educational Materials such as teaching and learning aids, provision of health care facilities to some Health Facilities across the Local Government,” he listed.
The Caretaker Chairman added that, “The local government also invests a lot on security matters due to the in-flow of some miscreants in to the local government from other states.”
According to him, “We now have relative peace in the Local Government as people go about their farming and business activities without any fear of being attacked.”
He also said that, “It is prudent at this juncture to acknowledge the total support and guidance we are receiving from his Royal Highness the Emir of Dass, Dr. Usman Bilyaminu Othman. Sir, your contributions in the implementation of all the developmental programmes to our people across the local government is highly appreciated.”
“We also thank our father, the Hon. Commissioner in person of Alhaji Ahmed Sarki Jalam. Despite his very tied schedules he is able to honour our invitation. Thank you sir,” he added.
He added that, “To the people of Dass, we have no word to express our gratitude to you for the support and care you show to us. We only pray to Allah to continue to grant us good health and opportunity to serve you better.”
Abubakar Jibo then assured that, “As your servant, it is our covenant that we will do everything within our capacity to see to it that Dass is greatly uplifted and our people live a better life, all round.”
Commissioner, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon Aliyu Sarki Ahmad Jalam commended the Caretaker Chairman for his efforts in complimenting the Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed led administration in delivering dividends of democracy to the people.
He said that empowerment of this nature is needed particularly now that people are facing serious hardship using the Forum to appreciate the Emir of Dass for honoring the Governor’ with the Traditional title of Wazirin Dass.
In his remarks, the Emir of Dass, Usman Bilyaminu Othman II appreciated Governor Bala Mohammed for his efforts in addressing the challenges facing the people and called for continuous support for the administration.
