Bauchi state Government has indicated plans to embark on a comprehensive redesigning and rehabilitation of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Permanent Orientation Camp in Wailo Village, Ganjuwa Local Government.
The disclosure was made by the State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir during a facility tour to assess the condition of the camp on on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.
The Governor’s visit revealed the dire dilapidated state of the camp, which has been in disrepair for some time as the Governor expressed concern over the inadequate facilities and infrastructure, which have hindered the smooth operation of the NYSC program in the state.
Bala Muhammad emphasized the importance of the NYSC scheme in promoting national unity and development, noting that the rehabilitation of the camp is crucial in providing a conducive environment for corps members to undergo their orientation and training.
The comprehensive rehabilitation will include the renovation of buildings, upgrade of infrastructure, and provision of modern facilities. The Governor assured that the project will be completed in record time to ensure that corps members enjoy a comfortable and productive stay at the camp.
He added that the rehabilitation of the camp is part of the state government’s efforts to improve the welfare of corps members and support the NYSC scheme, as well as youth development and national service.
Bala Mohammed said that, “I am dedicated to rejuvenating our dilapidated institutions, ensuring that our citizens receive accessible services and the benefits of democracy.”
He added that, “During my recent assessment visit to the Wailo NYSC Orientation Camp in Ganjuwa Local Government Area, I was deeply concerned by the poor condition of the facilities and accommodations.”
The Governor added that, “Accompanied by top government officials, including the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Ƙashim Ibrahim, Chief of Staff, Dr. Aminu Gamawa, Youths and Sports Commissioner, Salees Gamawa, and PPS Sama’ila Burga, I toured the camp to evaluate its state.”
According to him,”I have called upon the Bauchi State Project Monitoring and Evaluation Committee to develop a strategic plan for the comprehensive rehabilitation of all camp structures. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to improving the living conditions and infrastructure for our youth. #GreaterBauchi.”
In a thankful remark, the State Coordinator of the Scheme, Mrs. Rifkatu Daniel, opined that the rehabilitation of the NYSC camp in Wailo Village will not only benefit corps members but also contribute to the economic growth of the local community.
The project will create jobs, stimulate local economic activity, and enhance the overall development of the area.
