Bauchi State Police Command has dismissed One Police Constable while Four others had deductions in ranks as disciplinary measures in the year 2024.
The disclosure was made by the Commissioner of Police, CP Auwal Musa Mohammed while briefing Journalists on the activities of the Command in the year 2024 at the Command headquarters late Monday evening.
The CP disclosed that, “A total of Eighteen personnel have undergone internal disciplinary measures, demonstrating our dedication to maintaining high operational standards. This includes the dismissal of one Police Constable, rank reductions for four officers, issuance of warning letters to Six personnel, and reprimands for four others.”
Auwal Musa Mohammed added that, “Moreover, our Complaint Response Unit (CRU), functioning within the Police Public Relations Department, has played a critical role in addressing public complaints against the misconduct of our officers and men.”
“During this timeframe, we received Ten complaints, all of which were meticulously investigated. Our efforts culminated in the recovery of ₦784,000 from the implicated officers, which has been duly returned to the affected victims,” he revealed.
He added that during the period under review, the Command recoded a total of 1182 cases resulting in the arrest of 2322 suspects during various operations in the year 2024 .
Auwal Musa Mohammed said that it was in accordance with the policy trust of the 22nd Indigenous Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, aimed at combating crime and enhancing the safety of all citizens for economic development.
“To further this objective, the Command has undertaken a comprehensive reassessment of its crime prevention strategies, with Community Policing serving as the foundational element of our approach,” he added.
He added that the Command, under his leadership, is implementing decisive measures to address criminal activities within the state which primarily focuses on proactive initiatives designed to deny safe havens to criminal elements who may seek to challenge Police commitments.
“As a result, we have achieved the significant outcomes through the efforts of our State Criminal Investigation Department, the State Intelligence Department (SID), and Area commands, alongside thirty-three (33) Divisional Headquarters and tactical units attached to the Command.”
He gave the breakdown of the cases stating that,”Of these, 678 cases and 895 suspects were subsequently charged to court. Forty-eight cases involving Eight-two suspects culminated in successful convictions. 396 cases involving 816 suspects remain pending trial,while Thirty cases are currently under investigation.”
The Command also documented Seventy-three cases of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) during the period.
In light of these developments, the following exhibits were recovered: Twenty-three AK-47 rifles, Four G-3 rifles, Three SMG rifles, Twenty-two fabricated or cut-to-size firearms, Five fabricated pistols, 746 live ammunitions of various calibres, Thirty-two magazines, 100) cartridges, Sixty-eight cutlasses, Twenty-six Knives, Ten motor vehicles, Twenty-nine motorcycles, Sixty-nine handsets, Twenty-eight tricycles and a cash sum of ₦22,038,000.
The CP stressed that, “These successes were facilitated through critical information provided by the public, who remain essential partners in the effort to ensure a safe and secure environment.”
According to him, “Additionally, the Command has implemented crime prevention measures that integrate both traditional practices and scientific methodologies, including consistent intelligence-led policing. These initiatives have been further enhanced through collaborations with sister security agencies and non-governmental organizations to effectively address all forms of criminal activity in our state.”
“In line with our commitment to accountable and transparent service delivery, we have actively addressed instances of professional misconduct within our Command from January 2024 to date,” he added.
The CP added that, “As we progress, we remain steadfast in our commitment to continuing internal disciplinary procedures for personnel who do not uphold our established standards, thereby ensuring accountability and fostering continuous improvement in our service delivery.”
According to him,”As we look forward, the command is fully prepared and equipped for 2025. We will deploy further strategies to safeguard lives and property while building upon the successes achieved in 2024.”
The CP used the opportunity to express sincere gratitude to the citizens of Bauchi State for their ongoing cooperation with the Nigeria Police Force stressing that, “My appreciation also extends to our sister agencies, quasi-security outfits, and traditional and religious institutions for their steadfast support in fostering a safer Bauchi.”
To the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, Bauchi State Command, he stated that,”I commend your professionalism, dedication, and sacrifices. Your contributions have been pivotal to our successes.”
He also expressed profound appreciation to the Bauchi State Government, under the distinguished leadership of the Executive Governor, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, for his unwavering support and commitment to enhancing the operational capacity of the Nigeria Police Force in the state.
He concluded, “While we remain steadfast in our mandate to ensure peace and security, we appeal to the public to continue providing timely and accurate information. Policing is a collective responsibility, and your cooperation is imperative to our success.”
