BREAKING: Retired Gen Yake becomes first Gun-Za’ar

A retired General in the Nigeria Army, Brigadier-General Marcus Kokko Yake ((Rtd) has emerged the first officially selected and recognised Gung-Za’ar of the newly created Za’ar Chiefdom in Bauchi State.
His emergence was in line with the provisions of the Za’ar Chiefdom Law 2025, under which the election of the first Gung-Zaar was conducted following the public notice issued by the Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs calling for the Expression of Interest by interested parties to contest for the Chieftaincy stool.
A press release signed by Khadija Danladi Hassan Kobi, Information officer, Ministry For Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bauchi State dated 26 /10/ 2025, contained that Seven applications were received, screened and cleared for the contest.
The release further contained that, “The Electoral College as defined by the Law was duly constituted. Three candidates withdrew before the elections while the four others contested.”
It further contained that, “Following the elections, Brigadier-General Marcus Kokko Yake ((Rtd) emerged as the winner. His election will consequently be presented to the Governor for approval and formal appointment as the first Gung-Za’ar of the Zaar Chiefdom.
