Over the past two years, the CLEEN Foundation, in collaboration with critical stakeholders across Eight states, has been deeply engaged in promoting the effective implementation of the ACJA/ACJL.
The assertion was made by the Executive Director, CLEEN Foundation, Peter Maduoma, at the opening ceremony of a 3-day meeting on Institutional Strengthening for Civil Society Observatory towards sustainable advocacy and monitoring implementation of the ACJL regime in Nigeria held in Bauchi on Monday.
According to him, “Our collective efforts have yielded successes in advocacy, capacity building, policy reforms, and multi-stakeholder engagements.”
Represented by IT Officer, Dr Gabriel Akinremi, he stated that, “However, challenges persist, particularly in ensuring consistent application, adequate training, and sustainable monitoring mechanisms for justice sector reforms.”
He stressed that, “This calls for deeper institutional strengthening, broader stakeholder coordination, and long-term commitment to sustaining these reforms.”
According to him, “This engagement provides us with an opportunity to reflect on our journey so far, share experiences, and develop strategic pathways that will consolidate our progress and ensure the long-term impact of our work.”
Peter Maduoma added that, “The agenda for this meeting is carefully designed to equip civil society organizations, legal professionals, law enforcement agencies, and other critical actors with the tools, knowledge, and collaborative frameworks necessary to drive continuous reform efforts.”.
He added that, “As we embark on these discussions, I urge everyone to actively participate, exchange insights, and contribute to shaping actionable recommendations that will strengthen justice sector oversight and enhance the sustainability of the ACJA/ACJL regime.”
The CLEEN ED added that,”On behalf of the CLEEN Foundation and our esteemed partners, I extend my sincere appreciation to all stakeholders present today, including the Ministry of Justice, National Police Force, Nigerian Correctional Service, ACJMC, Legal Aid Council, NBA, FIDA, and our civil society observatories. Your unwavering dedication to justice sector reform is truly commendable.
