Emir of Jama’are, in Jama’are LGA of Bauchi State, Alhaji Nuhu Ahmad Wabi, has called for the inclusion of traditional institutions in the implementation of the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project in the state.
The Emir made the call during a courtesy visit of the Bauchi ACReSAL led by the State Project Coordinator, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir, and his team in his palace in Jama’are.
He stressed that incorporating traditional institutions is vital to ensuring community ownership and sustainability of the project.
The Emir emphasized the need for proper guidance and long-term sustainability of such project in order to have a long lasting impact on the people.
Nuhu Wabi also applauded the ACReSAL initiative aimed at addressing challenges in riparian states, particularly in combating extreme climate issues, mitigating climate change effects, and safeguarding critical environments like the Nguru wetland and the Lake Chad basin.
The Royal Father then solicited for quicker actions in the implementation of the project considering the devastating effect of environmental degradation across the state.
The Royal Father also expressed gratitude for the inclusion of the Jama’are Emirate among the communities benefiting from these efforts.
He highlighted the importance of finding lasting solutions to the recurring water flooding affecting his people and assured full support from his emirate to help achieve the project’s objectives, not only in the state, but across the country.
Earlier, Dr. Ibrahim Kabir provided an extensive overview of ACReSAL’s interventions in the state, outlining key initiatives including the construction of dams and drainage systems, establishment of plant nurseries, development of water schemes for both human and animal consumption, and the introduction of Community Resilience Funds (CRF) to support farmers in improving food production, security, and livelihoods.
Dr. Kabir also announced plans to establish Plant Nursery Developments across the state’s 20 LGAs to provide seedlings for afforestation efforts, urging the Emirate to support this climate change mitigation initiative.
Additionally, he discussed plans to identify a site for a proposed Agro-processing Center, which aims to enhance the livelihoods of youths in the area, particularly those trained under Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed’s initiatives.
Alhaji Adamu Abubakar Barde, the SSA to the Governor on ACReSAL, reiterated the current administration’s commitment to improving the living conditions of the people through the ACReSAL project, assuring that all promises made will be fulfilled.
As part of the visit, a thresher machine and other tokens were presented to the Emir.
Similarly, the Team extended the same visit to the Ningi Emirate of His Royal Highness, Alhaji Yunusa Muhammad Danyaya, who was represented by the council’s secretary, where Bauchi ACReSAL sought for his fatherly support in the project implementation and presented thresher machine alongside other souvenir to the council.
