Gombe State Government has inaugurated steering and technical committees for the recently created State Drugs and Consumables Management Agency for effective operations.
Inaugurating the committees on behalf of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, the State’s Commissioner for Health Dr Habu Ɗahiru, said the committees are put in place to ensure uninterrupted supply of qualitative drugs and medical consumables in the state’s health facilities.
He said the State Steering Committee of the Integrated Sustainable Health Supply System, will oversight and monitor the activities of the agency to ensure its effective operations.
The commissioner will serve as chairman of the 8 member steering committee, with Director Pharmaceutical Services as secretary.
He said Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya is very passionate about the agency, and asked the committees to ensure effective monitoring and implementation of its activities.
While congratulating them for being selected to serve, the commissioner charged them to work assiduously to achieve the set objectives.
Dr Habu Ɗahiru said the technical committee has Director Pharmaceutical Services in the State’s Ministry of Health Philimon Idi as chairman with members from various sectors of specialization, while the Head of Essential Drugs, State Primary Healthcare Development Agency will serve as secretary.
He said the committee’s major terms of reference is to offer technical support for seemless provision of drugs and medical consumables, and to ensure availability of same in all primary healthcare centres across the state.
The commissioner urged them to use their professional expertise to guide the drugs management agency, to ensure that its services are optimally provided to clients.
While describing the agency as the live wire of healthcare services, the commissioner charged them to ensure that services are provided for patients at all the time.
He expressed hope for synergy and cordial working relationship between the agency and the two committees.
In his remark, the Executive Secretary Gombe State Drugs and Consumables Management Agency Pharmacist Caleb Faransa said the tasks ahead is a collective responsibility among all stakeholders, calling for synergy to achieve the set targets.
He charged members of the committees to take ownership of their services, as the services are directly for their people across the state.
On his part, the chairman of the technical committee Philimon Idi, said they will put in their best in serving the people of the state.
While assuring of best services, the chairman said they shall never fail the state government, considering the caliber of members that formed the committees.
He appreciated the state government for the opportunity to serve their people.
