Governments, individuals, corporate organisations urged to invest, develop other sports
Governments and other well to do individuals have been encouraged to invest more in other sports apart from football for the overall development of sporting activities in the country.
The Chairman of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’id, made the call at the closing ceremony of the annual Tennis competition organized by Epitome Tennis Foundation in Bauchi.
Comrade Umar Sa’id said, regular sponsorship of other sports by well to do individuals and cooperate organizations, will help in identifying young talents that can represent their states and the country in different competitions.
He commended organisers for reviving Tennis game in Bauchi, by inviting players of all age from other states to showcase their talents in a one week tournament.
Umar Sa’id, appreciated players and officials for exhibiting high sense of displine and commitment throughout the competition.
Also speaking, President Epitome Tennis Foundation, Yahaya Yahuza Muhammad BBJ said, the annual Tennis tournament was organized to raise awareness of curtailing drug abuse and other social vices in the society.
BBJ thanked Bauchi state Government for sponsoring the tournament, and promised to expand it in the subsequent events.
On his part, a 57 year old Tennis veteran, Alhaji Hassan Abba Aminu, encourage youths to engage in sports to improve their health and boost means of livelihood.
During the final match of the single event, Idris Aliyu from Kano club emerged winner after beaten his opponent Abdussamad Baballe from Bauchi club with six-two, six-two in two sets.
