Bauchi State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed on Friday welcomed the 2024 Batch ‘C’ Stream Il of NYSC Corps members deployed to the State.
The Governor urged them to work tirelessly towards achieving the scheme’s objectives of national unity and development.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the orientation course held at the Wailo Permanent Orientation Camp, the Governor noted that those who served before have established a solid foundation, hence the need for the serving members to build upon the legacy left behind.
He also reminded the Corps members that the primary aim of the NYSC scheme is to promote national unity and integration, pointing out that the orientation course was aimed at assessing and harnessing
their physical, psychological, mental, and intellectual capabilities.
Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, Bala Mohammed said that the people of Bauchi State are in support of the goals and objectives of the NYSC Scheme.
According to him, “I am very pleased with the spirit of patriotism and enthusiasm you displayed by promptly reporting to this orientation camp. I urge you to sustain and be guided by this spirit during the orientation exercise and throughout the period of your primary assignment.”
He stressed that, “The NYSC programme being a catalyst for accelerated national development, I wish to once again urge you to be totally committed towards the realization of the noble objective of the scheme.”
The Governor further stated that, “The future of this country rests on you. As future leaders, you have a crucial role to play in shaping our collective destiny. You must not misuse the unique opportunity provided by the NYSC Scheme.”
Bala Mohammed told the Corps members that the ongoing comprehensive renovation and construction of new facillties at the State NYSC Permanent orientation
camp Wailo is to provide a conducive environment for effective orientation exercises.
The Governor therefore enjoined the corps members to take advantage of Bauchi’s hospitable, friendly, and accommodating environment to gain a deeper understanding of the people of the state.
In his address, the Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brig – General Yushau Ahmed warned the newly sworn in Corps members across the country against destruction of hostels and other camp structures in their various locations.
Represented by Mrs Rifkatu Yakubu, the Bauchi State Coordinator of NYSC, Yushau Ahmed warned that any Corps member found wanting would be ‘seriously’ sanctioned in accordance with the scheme’s extant rules.
He said this was necessary in order to adequately maintain the newly renovated orientation camp by Gov. Bala Mohammed of Bauchi state.
“I want to use this medium to ask the corps members to do well and maintain the structures you have met.
“You met the hostels and other structures in good shape, we don’t want to have breakages and ensure that you don’t destroy anything in your various hostels and the camp at large,” he said.
The DG explained that out of the 2,200 corps members posted to the state, a total of 1,442 Corps Members, comprising 671 males and 771 females had been successfully registered before the swearing in ceremony.
On her part, the State NYSC Coordinator, Rifkatu Daniel Yakubu explained that the orientation course marks the beginning
of their journey towards greater achievements and future accomplishments.
