Geodesy Experts in the country have expressed confidence that with the deployment of Geodesy by Nigeria’s Federal Government, the rising trends of insecurity across the country can be curtailed.
The expression was a collective one by Experts under the aegis of the Nigeria Association of Geodesy (NAG) during the 2024 Scientific Conference and Annual General Meeting held at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi on Thursday.
The Experts argued that through geodetic knowledge, security operatives can track the exact locations and hide out of terrorists for a proactive security strategy.
President of NAF, Professor Timothy Idowu, said that it is only through geodesy that the precise locations of criminals can be tracked adding that this informed its veracity in tackling national security challenges.
The NAG President also said that Nigeria has the required geodetic experts to surmount the national food insecurity problem which is affecting the daily nutritional needs of households in the country.
Timothy Idowu then called on the Federal Government to deploy available resources at the Office of the Surveyor General of the Federation in close collaboration with security agencies to bring an end to the wanton destruction of lives and property.
Also Speaking, Surveyor Sa’idu Ibrahim Jahun, a former Rector of Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi said that the use of geoinformatics can lead to the discovery of untapped natural resources that God has endowed the country with for overall national development.
He called on NAG members to come up with better ideas and initiatives to meaningfully contribute to national growth and development.
