Mineral Resources Ministry receives new Commissioner, as Permanent Secretary hands over

Niger State Ministry of Mineral Resources has formally welcomed its newly appointed Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammed Qasim Danjuma, during an official handover ceremony held at the Ministry’s headquarters, in Minna.
In his opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Comrade Idris Legbo Abdullahi, warmly welcomed the Commissioner and assured him of the ministry’s maximum cooperation.
He highlighted key achievements recorded by the ministry, particularly in resolving mining related crises and sustaining routine site inspections across the state.
Comrade Legbo expressed confidence that the appointment of the new Commissioner would usher in a new era of progress, noting that lingering challenges would soon become things of the past.
He prayed for divine guidance, wisdom, and strength for the Commissioner to effectively discharge his duties, adding that goals yet to be achieved by the ministry would be realized under his leadership.
Speaking at the event, the Honourable Member representing Agaie Constituency, Alhaji Isa Mohammed Etsugaie, who accompanied the Commissioner to the ministry, described him as a proven leader with vast experience and strong grassroots support.
He noted that the Commissioner had made significant impacts in Agaie Local Government Area, earning widespread followership.
According to him, “His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Niger State, Rt. Hon Mohammed Umaru Bago, carefully considered the Commissioner’s capacity and experience in the solid minerals sector before appointing him.
He emphasized that the ministry was not new to the Commissioner, given his prior involvement and licensing in the sector, adding that his wealth of experience would help move the ministry forward. He pledged his support and cooperation, wishing the Commissioner success in his new assignment.
In his acceptance speech, Alhaji Mohammed Qasim Danjuma thanked Almighty God for the opportunity to serve and expressed deep gratitude to Governor Umar Mohammed Bago for the confidence reposed in him.
He described the Ministry of Mineral Resources as a critical pillar in expanding the state’s revenue base, creating employment opportunities, and promoting sustainable development.
The Commissioner outlined the ministry’s core mandate, which includes providing effective oversight in the implementation of solid minerals, oil, and gas policies; coordinating and regulating artisanal mining activities; ensuring compliance with environmental, safety, and health standards; and promoting responsible mining practices that safeguard host communities and the environment.
He further stated that the ministry would strengthen surveillance, enforcement, reclamation efforts, and apply appropriate sanctions where violations occur.
He disclosed plans to develop a comprehensive mineral resources database to guide both public and private sector investments and support informed decision making.
Alhaji Danjuma revealed that, in line with the ministry’s vision, the goal is to position Niger State among the three most vibrant state ministries of mineral resources in Nigeria by 2030, through proactive engagement, transparency, and strong partnerships with local and foreign investors. He stressed that achieving these objectives would require collective effort, calling on management and staff of the ministry, traditional institutions, host communities, security agencies, and private sector partners to work together.
He assured stakeholders of his commitment to purposeful leadership, accountability, staff welfare, and service, expressing confidence that with divine support, the guidance of the Governor, and cooperation of all stakeholders, the ministry would record remarkable achievements.
Also speaking, the Director General, Niger State Hydrocarbon and Solid Mineral Development Agency (NSHSMDA), Dr. Ndajiya Abdullahi Nma, welcomed the new Commissioner, describing his appointment as well deserved and timely.
He urged the Permanent Secretary and management staff to be accessible and supportive, allowing the Commissioner to effectively implement policies and programmes for the benefit of the state, Nigeria, and humanity at large.
Dr. Ndajiya commended the Honourable Member representing Agaie Constituency for his humility and support in escorting the Commissioner to the ministry, and prayed for sustained progress and growth of the ministry under the new leadership.
