Niger TUC inaugurates new EXCO

The Niger State chapter of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) has ushered in a new executive council, with a resounding call from labour leaders and government officials for unity, inclusiveness, and deeper collaboration to enhance industrial relations and harmony across the state.
Speaking on behalf of the Deputy Governor at the inauguration ceremony, the Head of Service, Abubakar Sadiq Idris, hailed the peaceful transition as a positive milestone for organised labour.
He noted that the impressive turnout at the event signified broad acceptance of the new leadership and appreciation for the outgoing team’s contributions.
Idris urged the newly inaugurated executives to embrace inclusive leadership and prioritize dialogue over confrontation.
“Collective decision-making remains essential for sustaining peace and productivity within the labour movement,” he emphasized.
Also addressing the gathering, the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Niger State Council, Comrade Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene, congratulated the new officers, describing their emergence as “a call to service at a critical period for workers.”

While acknowledging that labour leadership “is not a bed of roses,” Lafene expressed optimism that unity and strategic partnerships between labour unions would help tackle the challenges confronting workers in the state.
In his acceptance speech, the new TUC Chairman, Comrade Dahiru Garba Kuta, pledged to pursue constructive engagement with the state government.
He commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for implementing the minimum wage and supporting retirees.
Kuta also appealed for greater attention to unresolved issues, including arrears, promotions, and staff training.
He further advocated for the establishment of a Twin Secretariat to serve both the TUC and NLC, enhancing synergy between the two bodies.
Comrade Bala S. Gulbinboka was sworn in as the new Secretary, alongside nine other council members, marking the beginning of a new chapter for the TUC in Niger State.
