The Northern Youth Association of Nigeria, has described as deeply saddening, the gruesome murder of innocent Notherners who were on transit through Edo State by yet to be identified assailants.
The group therefore strongly condemned the brutal killing of the 16 Northern travelers in Uromi, Edo State, during a mob action on Thursday night declaring that, “This heinous act is unacceptable and must be thoroughly investigated to ensure that justice is served.”
In statement signed and issued by Godiya T. Adams Bogoro, President, Northern Youth Association of Nigeria, the group called on the relevant authorities to take immediate action to apprehend the perpetrators and bring them to book.
The group added that, “We also urge the Government of Edo State to take concrete steps to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.”
According to the group, “We have been assured that the Governor of Edo State is taking the matter very seriously and is committed to getting to the root of the incident. We commend his efforts and appreciate his commitment to justice and peace.”
“We would like to put on record that the Governor of Edo State is a man of peace and a great friend of the Arewa people. He has consistently demonstrated his commitment to the well-being and safety of all citizens, regardless of their ethnic or regional background,” It added.
It stressed that,”We are confident that he will do everything in his power to ensure that justice is served and that peace is maintained in the state.”
The group called for calm stating, “We call on our Northern brothers to remain calm and peaceful, even in the face of this provocation. We urge them not to take the law into their own hands, but to allow the relevant authorities to investigate the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The group concluded that,”We will continue to monitor the situation and work with the relevant authorities to ensure that justice is served. We also call on all Nigerians to condemn this heinous act and to work together to promote peace, unity, and understanding.”
