In an effort to minimize the number of accidents that lead to loss of lives and property in Gombe Metropolis, Shamaki West Security Initiative has collaborated with relevant authorities in accident prevention to address the menace.
The chairman of the Initiative Air Vice Marshal Ahmadu Mu’azu (Retired), said the move was to reduce the number of accidents in Shamaki Ward, a reason that prompted the association to invite the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Gombe State command, to train its members on traffic laws.
The representative of corps D.C Godwin Zauwaa Akiiga said the FRSC welcomes such development, calling on other communities to emulate.
Speaking on traffic laws, another FRSC officer Sanusi Yakubu warned motorists to ensure the safety of their vehicles, and to have all necessary items and documents before driving to avoid accidents.
Another FRSC official Sulaiman Audu said strict punishment is provided on any driver who breaks traffic rules or is caught speeding, overloading or not having lights for night driving among others.
The Bundu Wailaru Ward Head Maikudi Nuhu who spoke on behalf of the traditional and community leaders of the area, said they welcomed Shamaki West Security Initiative, maintaining that with the initiative, loss of lives and property will be prevented in the area.
At least 35 volunteers from the neighborhoods of Bundu Wailaru and Kasuwar Mata have shown interest in the disaster relief work, where two of them, Aliyu Sani and Adamu Aliyu Zarma expressed commitment to ensuring road safety especially in this period of the year.
