Some Education Stakeholders have expressed satisfaction with the impact of the Teaching at the Right Level TaRL approach among pupils in the basic education level in Bauchi State.
The stakeholders comprising of Journalists from Bauchi, Gombe and Taraba states as well as community leaders, government and UNICEF officials gave the commendation while monitoring TaRL sessions at Sarki Ahmadu Alhaji Central Primary School Misau.
TaRL is a teaching approach that assesses children using a simple testing tool and then groups them according to their learning level rather than their age or grade.
The teaching approach involves the use of methods such as Jumping letters and ladder among others in numeracy and literacy for forty five minutes every day.
The Education Secretary Misau LEA Muhammad Alhaji Abdu who appreciated government and development partners for the initiative, said the approach has significantly improved teaching and and increased enrollment because parents now ensure their wards return to school.
Corroborating the submission of the Education Secretary, the School’s SBMC Chairman Alhaji Sale Jarmajo said even with the challenge of lack of pupil’s furniture, the committee observed steady improvement in comprehension among the children since the introduction of TaRL.
Sale Jarmajo also used the opportunity to appeal to government to provide pupils desks, teaching materials and access to water to enable the pupils learn in a conducive and peaceful atmosphere.
On his part, the Headmaster of the school Abubakar Bala gave a breakdown of the school population with a total enrollment figure of 1726 pupils, 32 Teachers and 2 Watchmen.
The TaRL project is being implemented in four local government areas of Alkaleri, Ningi, Misau and Zaki.
