Umar Ahmed Chuso assumes duty as the 24th CP of Gombe

Umar Ahmed Chuso, has officially assumed duty as the 24th Commissioner of Police, Gombe State Command.

He takes over from CP Bello Yahaya, who has been redeployed by the Inspector-General of Police to the Police Staff College, Jos.

Upon assumption of duty on Thursday, Umar Ahmed Chuso appealed for the sustained cooperation of all stakeholders in order to effectively confront and overcome all forms of crime and other social vices across the State.

He emphasized his commitment to strengthening community-based policing as a strategic approach to crime prevention, intelligence-led policing, and improved police-community relations.

The new Commissioner of Police hails from Sokoto South Local Government Area of Sokoto State and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics from the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

He joined the Nigeria Police Force on 10th June, 1994, as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and underwent professional training at the Nigeria Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State.

Throughout his illustrious career, Umar Ahmed Chuso has served in several strategic and leadership positions, including: Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command, (December 2025), Deputy Commandant, Police Staff College, Jos (31 July – 9 December 2025), Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, Kano State Command (2023–2025), Deputy Commissioner of Police, CID, Kano State Command (2023), Assistant Commissioner of Police, Operations, Delta State Command (2019–2022) and Pioneer Area Commander, Argungu, Kebbi State (2017–2018)

He has also served in other notable capacities, including CSP Administration, Kebbi State Command; Directing Staff, Police College, Kaduna; Divisional Police Officer in Illela, Yauri, Argungu, Bagudo, Unguwar Rimi, Sokoto Central Division, Gwiwa, and Augie.

Additionally, he served at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), Interpol Section, Abuja, among others.

Umar Ahmed Chuso has attended several professional courses both locally and internationally, including: Citizenship and Leadership Course, Advanced Detective Course, Tactical Leadership and Command Course
•Protection of Human Rights Course, Texas Southern University, Houston, USA and Higher Military Strategy Course, Army War College, Abuja. He is a Member of the Nigerian Institute of Police Studies (MNIPS).

The Commissioner of Police is an avid reader and likes playing badminton at his leisure time. He is happily married and blessed with children.

Umar Ahmed Chuso called on traditional rulers, community leaders, youth groups, religious organizations, and the entire people of Gombe State to strengthen collaboration with the Police through active participation in community-based policing initiatives, timely sharing of credible information, and collective responsibility for public safety.
