The Bauchi State Agency for the control of HIV/Aids tuberculosis and Malaria BACATMA says only women are allowed to collect the insecticide mosquito treated nets which will be distributed in the next few days.
The Chairman of the Agency Dr Sani Muhammad Dambam stated this during an advocacy visit to the district head of Ganjuwa in Bauchi State preparatory for the Agency’s intervention and distribution exercise to be conducted next week.
Dr Dambam said the decision was meant to curtail issues of violence and mob action that was registered in the years back, noting that women are believed to be less than violent than the men folk, hence the need to make them collectors of the commodity.
Earlier the State Coordinator Seasonal Malaria chemo prevention SMC Kabiru Muhammad El Gamawy indicated that 75% of hospital cases were Malaria, affecting mostly pregnant women and under 5 children.
In a remark, the district head Ganjuwa Alh Baba Muhammad Gidado explained that the traditional institutions were commited to the successful implementation of the distribution exercise.
The delegation was also at the emir’s palace of Kafi for the same mission.
