Bauchi State Government has reiterated its commitment to providing quality healthcare services to the citizens particularly at the primary level where majority of the people reside.
The assertion was made by the Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Auwal Jatau during the annual award ceremony for best performance in Primary Healthcare Facilities for the year 2024 held at the Banquet Hall of the Government House on Tuesday.
He highligted that the health sector, as a critical sector of governance, has received the much needed priority aimed at enhancing effective and efficient healthcare service delivery.
Auwal Jatau also expressed the present administration’s commitment to continue improving the health sector stressing that a healthy society is a wealthy society going by the anxiom that health is wealth.
He also disclosed that already, the Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed has since approved the sum over N850m as counterpart funds for primary healthcare services across the State.
While assuring of the state government’s determination to continue partnering with development partners in the health sector, the Deputy Governor urged the state primary healthcare development board not to relent in ensuring success in achieving the primary objectives of efficient healthcare service delivery to the poor citizens of the State.
He appreciated the contributions of the development partners and called for sustainance of the partnership for the good of the people of the state.
Earlier in his welcome address, the State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Muhammad Sani Danbam expressed the state government readiness to recruit not less than 3000 health workers who will be distributed to health facility centers across the State.
Sani Danbam urged the awardees to consider the awards as a morale booster and redouble their efforts to improve service delivery and appreciated the state government for given the healthcare sector the much needed attention.
UNICEF Health Officer, Patrick Akor, who represented the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Bauchi Field Office, Dr Nuzhat Rafique reassured that the organization will continue support to the state government in improving health service delivery at all levels.
He unveiled UNICEF’s programmes that are underway which will go a long way in boosting health services in Bauchi State.
In his remarks, the Co-chair Bauchi State Taskforce Committee on Health, Emir of Dass, Alhaji Usman Bilyaminu Othman appreciated the state government’s resilience and determination in improving health service delivery in the State.
He congratulated the awardees and urged them to reciprocate the kind gesture extended to them by working more harder to ensure effective and efficient healthcare service delivery at the various facilities.
The Emir reiterated the determination of the traditional institutions to key in to the programme of Polio campaign coming up soon assuring that all traditional rulers will participate in mobilization and the exercise proper.
He expressed happiness that the traditional rulers have been saddled with the responsibility of choosing the teams that will be going round for the Immunization exercise.
The best performing primary healthcare centers, best performing local government councils as well as performing local government Chairperson in the 2024 year were presented with awards in recognition of their dedication in improving healthcare service delivery in their place of primary assignment.
