The 2023 governorship candidate of the opposition New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) in Gombe State, Khamisu Mailantarki has announced his decision to dump the party.
Khamisu Mailantarki made the announcement to dump his erstwhile party after sending a resignation letter to his Ward Chairman at Herwagana ward in Gombe LGA.
He noted in the letter that his resignation takes effect from today, Wednesday, thanking the party for the opportunity it gave him for his political ambition.
According to him, “I am writing to inform you of my intention to resign from my position as a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party.”
He stated that, “This will be effective from Wednesday 10th July, 2024. Please accept my resignation letter and be notified from the date stated above.”
He added that, “I deeply express my appreciation to all the executive members as well as other who saw me through my entire journey in 2023 elections while contesting for the office of the Governor in Gombe State under the platform of the NNPP.”
However, he did not reveal the new political party he would join but said that NNPP had given him a chance that prepared him well for the challenges ahead .
Khamisu Mailantarki lost the elections having came third behind in the last governorship election where incumbent Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) won the polls and the candidate of the main Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Muhammed Barde came second.
