“They were also taught how to take care of their bodies by having their bath, washing their inner wears and others. The girls were also informed on the dangers of exposing themselves to premarital sex and sensitive touches from men, such might put their lives at risk of unwanted pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases.
“Moreso, the 20 boys were sensitized on the dangers of drug abuse and keeping of bad company as that could distort their mental sanity and influence them into social vices. The boys and girls were also sensitized on the importance of education.”
Also speaking, Samuel Kana, one of the project team leads, said that the boys were basically trained on safeguarding their minds against harmful substances that could affect their mental health.
A representative of FOMWAN, Fakayat Abdulwahab, said that: “We have noticed that some of the adolescent girls do not know their menstrual cycle and how to take care of themselves. Many of them are not being taught by their parents. We felt we could help them by giving orientation.
“One good thing is that, we believe that the few of them that we have given orientation here will share with other people in the area. They have their friends that can still benefit from the training.’’
