Chairman, Governors’ Forum of the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir has noted that personal ambitions have often overshadowed the Party’s collective agenda, undermining its national performance.
Bala Mohammed, who is the Governor of Bauchi State made the assertion while announcing that the Forum has overturned the suspension of Acting National Chairman, Amb Umar Iliya Damagum, National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba and National Legal Adviser, Kamaldeen Ajibade SAN on Tuesday in Abuja.
The decision followed a split within the National Working Committee (NWC) that resulted in Umar Damagum’s suspension and the appointment of the National Treasurer, Ahmed Yayari Mohammed as his replacement.
While speaking at the end of the Forum’s emergency meeting, Bala Mohammed pointed out that “internal conflicts among NWC members have hampered the PDP’s ability to function effectively as an opposition party.”
The Forum’s Chairman also underscored the PDP’s rich legacy, highlighting its strong Constitution and significant accomplishments during its 16 years in power.
He stressed the NWC’s commitment to revitalizing the Party in line with the vision of its founders and promised to restore hope among members, particularly the Youths and key stakeholders.
This decision by the PDP Governors marked a critical step in addressing the party’s ongoing leadership crisis, particularly the rivalry between Umaru Damagum and Yayari Mohammed as contained in a statement by Lawal Muazu Bauchi, New Media Aide to Bauchi Governor.
