Sen Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District of Bauchi State in the Senate under the banner of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has incurred the wrath of his supporters, mostly youths in Tilden Fulani, Toro LGA of Bauchi State who have declared that they are no longer in his camp.
The angry youths accused the Senator of neglecting and abandoning them immediately after the 2023 General elections during which they said that they laboured and suffered to ensure his victory at the polls.
The supporters announced the decision earlier on Saturday in Tilden Fulani for what they described as abandonment and lack of respect for them, they therefore tore his banners in the area in annoyance.
A witness to the development narrated that the problem started when the Youths on hearing that the Senator was coming and heading to Bauchi, blocked the road and demanded that he should stepdown from his car and speak to them.
The witness who is a resident of Tilden Fulani but pleaded anonymity narrated that the Senator refused to bulge and the Youths insisted he directed his security aides to clear the road to enable the convoy pass.
He aside that there was a little resistance by the Youths leading to confrontation between them for a few moments after which the blockage was cleared but one of the youths was said to have been injured seriously and now receiving treatment at an undisclosed health facility.
The witness stressed that, “How Sen. Shehu Buba Umar treated his supporters in Tilde Fulani today is condemnable, unwelcome, and uncalled for. Shehu ordered security operatives to clear the road for him when his supporters wanted to see him while passing by along the Bauchi Jos highway.”
He added that,”Regrettably, the action resulted in the injury of one of the APC supporters, whose current condition is unknown as it was reported to be critical. As a result, we urge him to apologize to the Toro APC family for his ungodly action. This is not how supporters should be treated.”
According to him,”Those youths from what I gathered, were the first set of supporters of the Senator even before the elections. The established an office and erected his billboards and posted his posters everywhere.”
Another resident of Tilden Fulani stated that, “The real issue was that Sen Shehu Buba Umar, Senator Representing Bauchi South Senatorial District was passing by today in Tilden Fulani community of Toro LGA on his way to Bauchi.”
He added that, “There is a joint where his billboard and other Politicians from his political party is placed. So, the boys who are mostly political thugs accosted the Senator insisting to speak directly with him. While the Security Agent was doing his work to prevent him but they insisted. He reacted and they all started beating him and others reacted to prevent it from escalating. No one is harm . This is the real situation.”
All efforts to get official reactions from the camp of the Sen Shehu Buba Umar proved abortive, his phone number was not going neither did he respond to the WhatsApp message and sms sent to his mobile number.
Also contacted vide WhatsApp, his Chief of Staff, Hon Danladi Fitto Dass, responded to greetings but declined to make further comments when asked to react to the development.
Another Aide contacted, Maijama’a Mato neither responded to the WhatsApp message and sms sent to his mobile number.
