A two day training for community Based and women led Organizations with the objective of training them to design, deliver, advocate, and influence Gender Transformative and Affirmative Approaches to health with key focus on HIV, TB and Malaria has been held.
Organized by a Non governmental organization, Better Life Restoration Initiative (BERI).
Forty different organizations were in attendance and their Skills horned for effective Advocacy, Design, and efficient approach to health.
In her paper, Miss Deborah Ajibola, Programme Manager, BERI outlined some Gender Barriers to health to include: Spousal Consent, poverty, low level of Education others are Cultural barriers and distance amongst other factors.
Ajibola explained that BERI’s principles aligns with transformative Approaches geared towards rigid gender norms and imbalances.
They also believe in empowering community Based women who will in turn step down the knowledge for Improved health Outcomes.
Participants at the training were also exposed to Participatory learning Action (PLA) which can be used to identify causes and barriers related to accessing care in HIV, TB and Malaria.
The training was highly interactive with group work for the participants and it was held in Jos the plateau state Capital.
