Bauchi state government is to implement Adolescent Girls’ Initiative for Learning and Empowerment AGILE project across the 20 local government areas of the state.
The three years project which has support of the World Bank is being implemented in seven states before adding eleven others in its additional financing.
The Project Coodinator Dr Jamila Muhammad Dahiru who gave the indication while breafing newsmen in Bauchi said the project is targeting adolescent girls between 10 to 20 years to pursue education along side their males counterpart.
Dr Jamila Muhammad Dahiru represented by the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Education Dr Sule Adamu Madara said already the state government has committed the counterpart fund of 150 million naira into the project apart from other logistics.
She noted that the aim of the project is to ensure the empowerment of girls from the less priveledged families, people living with disabilities among others who cannot support the education of their girls children.
The Project Coodinator explained that the target beneficiaries will be supported with life and gender based violence skills, reduce gender gap and ensure their enrollment, retaintion and completion as well as employment.
Dr Jamila Muhammad Dahiru said that Civil Society and Non Governmental Organizations as well as the media would be engaged in the course of the implementation of the project in the state to ensure transparency.
