Media practioners in Bauchi State enjoined to enlighten the public on Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine due to commence in September this year.
The Executive Chairman State Primary Health Care Development Agency Dr Rilwanu Muhammad made the appeal during an Orientation Meeting for journalists on the new Vaccination exercise in Bauchi.
Dr Rilwanu Muhammad explain that the Human Papilloma Virus Vaccine was introduce to prevent cervical cancer among women of reproductive age.
He said women age nine to fourteen will be immunize when the campaign started in September this year.
Presenting a paper on National update on Human Papilloma Virus, Director Planning and Research of the agency Dr Jibrin Umar Muhammad said cervical cancer is the second cancer related ailments that courses high rate of death among women globally.
Dr Jibrin said in 2020 out of six hundred and four thousand victims of Cervical cancer three hundred and fourty two died of the disease worldwide.
He mentioned some of the courses of the disease to include early sexual intercourse,
The Director appealed to parents to avail their girl child, the opportunity to be vaccinated as the treatment of the disease is costly.
Speaking on the role of media UNICEF Bauchi Field office representative Dr Mustapha Mailafiya called on media practioners to give necessary support for the success of the exercise.
Sixteen state have been selected for the pilot program of HPVV Campaign in Nigeria.
