Bauchi State Universal Basic Education Board SUBEB says it will not condone absenteeism and laxity from teachers and School Managers as schools resume for the 2023/2024 academic session.
The Acting Executive Chairman of the board Alhaji Saleh Yakubu Ningi sounded the warning while monitoring schools resumption at Bauchi, Darazo and Ganjuwa local government areas of the state.
Alhaji Saleh Ningi who is also the board’s Permanent Secretary said some Teachers have formed the habit of truancy and absenteeism without cogent reasons, and the board will not hesitate to punish any erring teacher.
He charged parents, teachers, SBMCs and other stakeholders to support the present administration in its effort to revamp the education sector for rapid development of the state.
Earlier, the Director Quality Assurance of the board Hajiya Aisha Muhammad said the aim of the exercise was to enable the management monitor the readiness of teachers, attendance of pupils as well as take stock of challenges for quick intervention.
On his part, the SUBEB Director Planning, Research and Statistics Dr Sadiq Ilelah said with the approval by the state Governor to employ two thousand teachers, the board will ensure even distribution and posting in other to ensure a balanced pupils/teacher ratio in its schools.
Also Speaking, the Director School Services Adamu Hassan Burga said the inspection team noted with concern the failure by teachers to breakdown the scheme of work, prepare lesson notes and commence classes, stressing that measures would be taken against such laxity.
Most of the schools visited to include Shadarki Primary School in Darazo and Soro Central Primary School Ganjuwa witnessed poor turnout of pupils and teachers with the exception of Tudun Salmanu Primary and Junior Secondary School which saw large percentage of pupils and students on the first day of resumption.
Other schools visited by another inspection team include Siri Zurhu Primary School Warji, Huturu Normadic School Ganjuwa and Durum Primary and Junior Secondary School in Bauchi local government.
