Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has emphasised his administration’s determination to promote, support and sustain innovative technologies that will help reduce import dependency and its attendant effects of capital flights and killing of local industries in the country.
The Governor made this known at the opening of a three day, Science Technology, Innovation, Agriculture and mineral resources expo 2024 taking place at the Technology Incubation Center, Gombe.
The Governor also reiterated his government’s determination, to enhance local content and strengthen self-sufficiency in productive capacities so as to create job opportunities, strengthen the economy, reduce poverty and overcome the challenges that hinder development to
improve the standard of living among residents of Gombe State.
Represented by his Deputy, Dr Manasseh Daniel Jatau, Inuwa Yahaya further said that the present administration has a political will to support encourage Technology Innovation towards taking Gombe state to promise land of development, through supporting home based technocrats.
Recieving the Deputy Governor and his entourage, the Commissioner, Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation, Associate Professor Abdullahi Bappa Ahmad Garkuwa, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, for unflinching support rendered to the Ministry which according to him gave it the opportunity to carry out several activities and programmes.
The Commissioner expressed happiness that this annual event has continued to link state innovators to investors and connected many others to beneficial networks.
The Expo, according to the Commissioner, has been assisting the Ministry in fishing out talented persons and supported them explore their talents for onward participation at the National Exhibitions Expo comes up between 11h – 15 March, 2024.
Bappa Garkuwa, added that Since inception of the administration of Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, Science and Technology sectors have witnessed greater attention of Government this can be attested by the tremendous achievements recorded.
The success recorded in the past programs of the Ministry, give the ministry courage to organize this year’s edition of the Expo, believing that it will create more opportunities for the inventors, innovators and entrepreneurs to build industries of their dreams from the results of their research, inventions and innovations and possible commercialization of their research results and production.
He however, requested the Governor to kindly approve renovation of 5 incubation units gutted by fire early last year and support the participation of the State team to the National Expo coming up early next month.
Abdullahi Bappa Ahmad Garkuwa delightfully announced that the Federal Government recently passed into law, Nigeria Startup Act, which means to massively support startups to innovators in Nigeria.
He therefore informed the gathering that the process has begun for the domestication of the Act in Gombe State as according to him, “This milestone will be achieved with the active contribution of members of the State ICT Technical Working Group that he recently inaugurated.”
The Commissioner then led the Deputy Governor Manasseh Daniel Jatau and his entourage to the various pavilions of the Eleven local government areas to inspect their products after the opening of the expo.
