Bauchi State Government has assured that it will properly and judiciously use the sum of $5m so far received for the implementation of the Adolescent Girls Initiatives for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project in the state.
The amount received is part of the sum of $80m assigned for the full implementation of the project by the funder, the World Bank through the Federal Government of Nigeria.
The disclosure was made by State Commissioner of Education, Dr Jamila Muhammad Dahiru during a quarter state steering committee meeting organized by Ministry in collaboration with the Adolescent Girls initiatives for Learning and Employment held in Bauchi on Tuesday.
The Commissioner reaffirmed that the State Government is well committed towards proper utilization of the funds to achieve the set objectives of the project aimed at making basic education easily accessible.
According to her, “The AGILE project is a comprehensive approach to address critical binding constraints that adolescent Girls face which limit their ability to complete secondary school.”
Jamila Dahiru tasked the Committee to work based on the terms and reference of the AGILE for proper adoption of approved work plan as is in the state work plan.
She stressed that the work plan will be the guiding document that will drive the full and proper implementation of the project as outlined.
In his presentation of the 2024 approved work plan, the State Coordinator of the AGILE project, Alhaji Ali Sule Gar explained the three components of the program to the Committee for deliberation and adoption.
The three components include creating safe and accessible learning space, construction of new classrooms and rehabilitation of dilapidated as well as provision of teaching materials among others.
