Bauchi State Government has assured farmers in the State that it will provide direct support by distributing critical inputs and equipment, including certified seeds, improved varieties of crops, fertilizers, and irrigation equipment to them.
The assurance was given by the State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, when he launched the 2025 Irrigation Agriculture Support Program, aimed at enhancing food security and promoting economic growth in the state.
The programme, which was launched on Wednesday at Zungur village in Bauchi Local Government, is designed to support farmers during the dry season by providing them with critical inputs and equipment by eliminating middleman syndrome which has negatively impacted on productivity.
The Governor who was represented by his Deputy, Rt Hon Auwal Muhammad Jatau emphasized the importance of maximizing the state’s fertile and abundant natural resources to promote year-round agriculture, production, and farming.
He noted that the programme is not only focused on addressing immediate challenges hampering bumper harvest, but also on securing the state’s agricultural future.
Bala Muhammad also announced that the state government will provide direct support to farmers by distributing critical inputs and equipment, including certified seeds, improved varieties of crops, fertilizers, and irrigation equipment.
He also emphasized the need for mechanization of agriculture, stating that the government will provide tractors and other modern equipment to enhance productivity.
Bala Mohammed called on traditional rulers, community leaders, and stakeholders to encourage farmers to participate actively in the program, also invited private investors and financial institutions to collaborate with the state government in expanding agricultural mechanization, improving credit access, and enhancing market opportunities.
The Governor further reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting farmers and ensuring a prosperous and food-secure Bauchi State.
He urged all stakeholders to work together to make the program a success, saying, “Let us all work together to make this program a success, go out and farm, and grow a brighter future.”
Bala Mohammed said that the deliberate initiatives of his administration in the agricultural sector was aimed at reducing food inflation in the State.
He highlighted some achievements recorded in the agricultural sector to include provision of mechanized farming tools, seeds, and the revival of the Bauchi fertilizer company for optimum production.
He solicited for the support of the private sector in the agricultural sector in providing mechanized farming tools to boost food production in Bauchi State and Nigeria as a whole.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner of Agriculture, Iliyasu Aliyu Gital highligted that dry season farming has been in the fore-front in in ensuring food security globally hence the need to continue investing in the agricultural sector to fight hunger in the Society.
The Commissioner explained that since its inception, the State Government has been giving the agricultural sector the much priority need which he said it’s impacts has just began manifesting.
Iliyasu Aliyu Gital pledged that Ministry of Agriculture will continue to strive hard in producing qualitative fertilizer that the state is well known for to continue in it’s effort of boosting agricultural production in the State.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Executive Chairperson of Bauchi LGC, Mahmud Baba Ma’aji emphasized the importance the farming imputs to the irrigation farmers in the State which he acknowledged that the program will complete that of the Federal Government’s initiative of irrigate Nigeria project aimed at enhancing food security.
Mahmud Baba Ma’aji thanked Governor Bala Mohammed for providing technological advanced farming tools to the irrigation farmers and warned the farmers not to engage in selling the items given to them.
Delivering a vote of thanks, the Emir of Bauchi, Alhaji Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu applauded the present administration’s commitment under Governor Bala Mohammed in boosting foods production in the State.
Represented by the Galadiman Bauchi, Surveyor Ibrahim Adamu Jumba called on the farmers to make best use of the tools distributed to them in order to contribute in feeding the Nation.
Items distributed included power power tilers, improved crop seeds, water pumping machines, assorted fertilizers amongst other things.
