It has been stressed that in today’s interconnected world, digital security has become an indispensable aspect of people’s work as development practitioners.
The assertion was made by the Executive Director of LIFE SPRING Africa Initiative (LISAI), Abdulrahman Salisu, at a One-day Training on “Enhancing the Digital Security Capabilities of LISAI and its Stakeholders” held on Thursday , 21st November, 2024 in Bauchi.
He stated that, “It gives me immense pleasure to welcome you all to this one-day training program on “Enhancing the
Digital Security Capabilities of LISAI and Its Stakeholders.” On behalf of Life Spring Africa Initiative (LISAI),
I express our deepest gratitude to each of you for making time to be here today, and to HIVOS People unlimited for their unwavering support in making this training possible.”
According to him, “With increasing reliance on digital tools and online platforms for Communication, data management, and service delivery, ensuring the safety and security of our digital assets is no longer optional-it is a necessity.”
He stressed that, “This training is not just about protecting data or systems; it is about safeguarding the trust and integrity that define our relationships with our communities, partners, and stakeholders.”
Abdulrahman Salisu added that, “As custodians of vital information, we have a shared responsibility to adopt practices that minimize risks and enhance our resilience against potential cyber threats.”
He stressed that,”Over the course of today, we will be learning from experts, engaging in interactive sessions, and
acquiring practical tools to navigate the ever-evolving landscape of digital security.”
The LISAI ED stressed that, “I encourage everyone to participate actively, share experiences, and ask questions. This is a safe space for learning and collaboration.I also want to emphasize that this training is just the beginning.”
He also stated that, “Digital security is not a one-time event but an ongoing commitment. I urge each of you to take the knowledge gained here back to your
organizations, implement the lessons learned, and build a culture of security awareness within your teams.”
He concluded stating that,”Finally, I want to thank our partners, stakeholders, and everyone involved in organizing this event. Your dedication and collaboration are what enable us to continue building stronger, safer, and more impactful networks.”
“Once again, welcome to this important training. Together, let us take this step towarda more secure and resilient future for LISAl and all our stakeholders,” he added.
In a goodwill message, Deputy Director, National Orientation Agency (NOA) Bauchi, Adamu Umar Sarkin Yara stated that, “Enhancing the Digital Security/Cyber Security capacity for stakeholders, training programme is very important.”
According to him, “Today, we gathered to address a critical aspect of our increasingly interconnected world: cybersecurity.”
The Deputy Director added that, “In this digital era, cybersecurity threats pose significant risks to individuals, organizations, and nations. It is imperative that we prioritize proactive measures to safeguard our digital landscape.”
He stressed that, “This training programme aims to empower you with the knowledge, skills, and best practices necessary to protect your digital assets and navigate the complex cybersecurity landscape.”
“Today’s training, is an important event because you will engage with expert facilitators, share experiences, and acquire practical insights to enhance your digital security capacity,” he added.
He then urged the participants to: actively participate in discussions and exercises, share expertise and learn from others and implement newfound knowledge in your organizations.
He stressed that,”Together, we can foster a culture of cybersecurity awareness, resilience, and cooperation.
Thank you for your dedication to enhancing digital security. Let’s work together to create a safer digital world.”
Also speaking, Chairman of BASNEC, John Jinjiri commended the organisation for organising the training which he said was coming at the right time considering the spate of cyber attacks in recent times.
Representatives of the Bauchi State Commands of Nigeria Police and Nigeria Security, Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) and Department of State Services (DSS) stressed the importance of raising awareness on cyber security and stalking especially among youths across the country.
Speaking differently, the representatives assured that the Agencies are doing everything possible to minimise the operations of the cyber criminals in the state urging victims not to keep quiet but speak out in order to get help.
Participants for the training were drawn from CSOs, NGOs, Youths and Women groups, relevant government agencies and Journalists in Bauchi state.
