Muslims faithful have been directed to dispose waste from slaughtered animals during the forthcoming sallah celebration at the appropriate channels to avoid pollution.
The Director General Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency BASEPA Dr Kabir Ibrahim gave the directive at a Press briefing on preparation for the forthcoming Eid El Kabir celebration.
Dr Kabir Ibrahim represented by the Director Inspection and Enforcement Mohammed Usman Sale said the agency has provided waste disposal centres in all major towns and streets across the state and anyone caught disposing animal waste in drainages will face prosecution by the mobile court of the agency.
He called on traditional leaders and Butchers to assist in mobilizing their subjects towards complying with the directive.
The Director General further warned those using tyres to burn animals’ skin for consumption to desist as it is dangerous to health.
On his part, the Chairman Garu Co-Leaders Association Abubakar Nuhu expressed appreciation to BASEPA for giving out the directive at the appropriate time.
Abubakar Nuhu called on all Ward Heads to ensure constant supervision and monitoring of those who slaughter animals during the sallah period to ensure compliance.
Also Speaking, the Chairman Butchers Association Bauchi local government Ibrahim Musa Madaki said they would soon issue warning for people to stop consuming any meat that is not slaughtered at government approved points.
Ibrahim Madaki noted that the association will work with BASEPA to ensure full compliance of the directive throughout the sallah period.
