Federal fire service Gombe, cautions residents on safety as harmattan approaches.
Residents of Gombe State have been advised to be safety conscious, as Harmattan period approaches.
The commanding officer, Federal Fire Services Gombe, Mr Ayuba Jonah Sule, gave the advice while inspecting fire fighting operational equipment, ahead of the command’s fire week scheduled for the second week of December, in the state.
Mr Jonah Ayuba said the Harmattan period, otherwise known as fire season according to firefighters, is full of fire outbreak tendencies due to dried weather, he therefore, expressed the need for both public and residential places to take preventative measures, by having at least a fire fighting extinguisher.
He enumerated some challenges facing the command, to include logistics and access roads, and called on authorities responsible for erecting buildings to ensure that people abide by the Land Use Act which prohibits blockage of access roads.
While commending the government of Gombe state for the support accorded the command by providing them with the operational base, Mr Jonah Ayuba, also called on petroleum marketers and owners of filling stations, to give them the necessary support, to succeed in their efforts to save lives and property.
