The North-East Development Commission (NEDC) has begun a three-day training workshop for journalists and civil society organisations (CSOs) across the North-East region
on Non-Kinetic Approaches to Ending Conflict for the Return of Sustainable Peace and Development.
The training aims to equip participants with the skills needed to foster peacebuilding and drive development in the conflict-affected region.
Speaking at the opening session in Maiduguri, NEDC Managing Director Muhammad Alkali highlighted the Commission’s dedication to addressing the root causes of conflict through its North-East Stabilisation and Development Master Plan.
He called for stronger collaboration between the media, CSOs, and the NEDC to sustain ongoing rebuilding efforts and promote harmonious coexistence.
In his remarks, NEDC’s Head of Corporate Services, Abba Musa, praised journalists and CSOs for their contributions to stabilising the region. Represented by Ms Naomi Abwaku, he described the workshop as a significant initiative to enhance their capacity and amplify the impact of their work.
In their goodwill messages, Ahmed Shehu, Chairperson of the North-East Civil Society Organisations, and Aminu Mallum of the Network of Adamawa NGOs, commended the NEDC for prioritising peacebuilding.
They underscored the workshop’s role in strengthening non-violent responses to insurgency and fostering sustainable development.
The training workshop featured notable speakers, including Prof Umar Pate, Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University Kashere; Dr Nathaniel Danjibo of the University of Ibadan; and Prof Muazu Abubakar of the University of Maiduguri.
