As tension grips the nation over the planned nationwide protest against hardship, the Nigerian Youth Parliament, has appealed to the youths to reconsider their plan and instead opt for dialogue to address their grievances.
Speaker of the Parliament, Azeezat Yishawu made the appeal in a press release issued to our correspondent on Monday.
She acknowledged the challenges faced by young people, including the impact of subsidy removal and exchange rate fluctuations, but warned that protests might not yield positive results and could lead to lawlessness and vandalism.
To move forward, the speaker suggested that the Federal Government should engage with established youth organisations to conduct Youth Stakeholders Engagement Meetings across the country, and generate reports and actionable solutions to the current hardship in the land.
This approach, Yishawu believes, would provide a more effective and constructive platform for young people to address their concerns and hold leaders accountable.
“However, I commend President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to address the nation’s challenges through initiatives like the Students Loan, National Youth Investment Funds, and increased National Minimum Wage.”, she said.
