Twenty – Eight Integrated boarding Qur’anic and Tsangaya Schools in Bauchi state have received food items as palliation from the State Government through the Ministry of Education.
The palliation was as part of measures by the State Government to cushion the negative effects of economic hardship being faced across the country.
The State Commissioner of Education, Dr Jamila Mohammed Dahiru made the disclosure on Tuesday when She officially flagged off the distribution exercise at Government Girls College, Bauchi.
The Commissioner said that the food items distributed were provided by the State Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management.
The Commissioner was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Alhaji Ali Babayo saying that the present administration acknowledges the global trend of economic downturn and deemed it necessary to extend the allocation of food palliation to boarding schools.
While appreciating Governor Bala Mohammed for the gesture, the Commissioner also thanked Security Agencies, especially, the EFCC for working to ensure that the commodities were delivered safely without diversion.
Earlier, the Director School Services in the Ministry, Malama Fatima Musa said that the allocation were done based on students’ population across the benefitting schools
She however called on the Principals to ensure judicious utilisation of the items by using it for the purpose it is meant for, to provide food for the students.
Also speaking on behalf of the School Managers, the State President of All Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Comrade Rabiu Shehu said that the food palliative to the schools was timely assuring to utilise the items for the benefit of students.
The 28 benefitting schools with a cumulative student population of 8261, were allocated 312 bags of Sorghum, 275 bags of Maize and 115 bags of Millet.
