The Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau on Tuesday in Abuja enjoined Deputy Governors across the 36 states of the federation to be proactive in providing support and strategic insights to their governors, ensuring that their administrations functions smoothly and effectively.
Speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the 2024 National Conference of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors of Nigeria, Auwal Jatau emphasized the importance of cooperation and understanding between governors and their deputies for societal development.
He noted that, the relationship between the two roles is critical in achieving shared objectives, pointing out that “when there is clear communication and collaboration, we can harness the strengths of both positions to drive meaningful change,”
On the theme of the conference which is , “Strategic Solutions for Good Governance, Food Security, and Sustainable Growth, the Bauchi Deputy Governor described it as timely and relevant, saying Good governance is the cornerstone of effective policy-making as it ensures that resources are allocated wisely with functional systems in place to monitor and evaluate outcomes.
He appreciated members of the Forum of Former Deputy Governors for their invaluable contributions towards the development and progress of their respective states and Nigeria as a whole, adding that their collective experiences, insights, and dedication to public service have laid a strong foundation for good governance.
“As we engage in discussions bordering on governance, food security, and sustainable growth, it is essential to recognize that these issues are interconnected. In a world grappling with challenges such as climate change, political instability, and socio economic inequality, our commitment to good governance must be unwavering.
“Sustainable growth is essential for the prosperity of our states and the nation. We must pursue economic strategies that are inclusive, environmentally sustainable geared towards long-term development. This means that we must invest in infrastructure, education, and technology while ensuring that our economic policies empower the most vulnerable segments of our society.
“I am happy to inform you that I am enjoying a good working relationship with my boss, His Excellency, Sen. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, CON, Kauran Daular Usmaniyya, the Executive Governor of Bauchi State since my assumption of office as his Deputy in 2023. He is a mentor and a leader per excellence, I want to assure you that I will continue to be loyal and supportive to his administration. Our collective goal should be to create an environment where governance is participatory for common objectives”
Auwal Jatau therefore expressed confidence that the outcome of the discussions and the solutions that will emerge from the conference will benefit not only states, but also the nation as a whole, observing that the “strength of our democracy lies in our ability to collaborate and support one another in the pursuit of progress of our states and for our country,”
Other speakers at the conference particularly the Former Deputy Governors, reiterated their desire to continue giving their best for the progress and development of the country and emphasized the need for mutual understanding between the Governors and their Deputies in order to improve the wellbeing of the citizens effectively as contained in a statement by Muslim Lawal, Special Assistant (Media), Deputy Governor’s Office, Bauchi State.
