The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations (ANGO), Gombe State chapter, has elected its executive members to oversee the association’s activities for the next four years.
Our correspondent reports that on Saturday in Gombe, Mr Yusuf Bachama emerged as chairman, with Yahaya Mohammed as secretary, alongside 14 other positions filled through consensus.
In his acceptance speech, Chairman Yusuf Bachama highlighted the crucial role of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) in tackling the pressing challenges faced by communities, particularly vulnerable populations.
He urged CSOs to go beyond addressing immediate needs and focus on creating sustainable strategies that ensure long-term progress and resilience.
“By consolidating their efforts, leveraging innovative approaches, and fostering stronger partnerships, CSOs can better tackle issues such as poverty, education inequality, access to healthcare, and social justice,” Bachama said.
He called on the organisations to prioritise community-centred solutions, collaborate across sectors, and advocate for policies that address the rights and needs of marginalised groups.
Bachama emphasised that CSOs serve as intermediaries between the government and the people, with a unique responsibility to amplify the voices of underserved communities, hold stakeholders accountable, and drive transformative change.
The chairman also expressed gratitude to Governor Inuwa Yahaya for the opportunity given to the association to contribute to governance in Gombe, as well as to Alhaji Abubakar Lugerewo, Speaker of the 7th Assembly, for fostering a positive working relationship.
