Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has flagged off the second phase of palliative distribution to 90,000 beneficiaries selected from the 2,998 polling units in the state.
Speaking during the flagging off, held at Gombe Emir’s Palace, the Governor said the gesture was meant to cushion the global economic hardship coupled with the recent petrol subsidy removal by the federal government.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya assured that his administration is ever ready to support its people to reduce their hardship, calling on those responsible for the distributions to ensure justice and fairness in the exercise.
Earlier, the Chairman State Steering Committee for the distribution who doubles as the Deputy Governor, Dr Manasah Daniel Jatau, said the committee will ensure timely distribution of the food items across the 114 political wards of the state.
The Deputy Governor said the palliative includes bags of rice and cartons of spaghetti among others, explaining that it is meant to support the poorest of the poor regardless of party or religious affiliation.
Speaking at the event, the acting District Head of Gombe who is also the District Head of Nasarawo, Alhaji Usman Shettima, commended the Governor for coming to the aid of the people at this critical moment, ensuring judicious distribution to all beneficiaries.
He further explained that the gesture demonstrates the governor’s empathy and good leadership style.
The traditional leader appreciated the Governor for the gesture, maintaining that the palliative is timely and will go a long way in alleviating the suffering of the people.
