Bauchi State Government on Monday, solicited for the continued support and cooperation of traditional rulers to enable it succeed in the delivery of dividends of democracy to the people of the state.
The request was made by the State Governor, Sen Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed when the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu paid him a sallah homage as part of sallah celebrations held at the Government House, Bauchi.
Represented by his Deputy, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Auwal Jatau, the Governor in particular, requested Emirs to educate their people on government’s efforts for their continued understanding and support to the government.
He appreciated the Emir of Bauchi Alhaji (Dr) Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, alongside his District Heads and other traditional title holders in his Emirate for the sallah homage, observing that the sustenance of this age-long tradition is a manifestation of the support and honour he is enjoying from the traditional institution in the state.
According to him, “This understanding between government and the traditional institution will go a long way in strengthening the existing cordial relationship between the two parties. I am therefore most appreciative and grateful for the gesture.”
He stressed that, “As a Government that has been put in place through a popular mandate freely given by the people of the State, we are not only committed to bringing about positive change in the lives of the people, but would also ensure that lives and property of all citizens are protected.”
Bala Mohammed added that,”We are desirous of creating an environment where all citizens would pursue their lawful activities without let or hindrance.”
“To this end, we have since coming on board in 2019 and our subsequent re-election in 2023, embarked on the provision of infrastructural facilities and social amenities across the State. You will bear me witness that these initiatives have changed the lives of the people of Bauchi State for the better. Ours is a government that is determined to do more with the little resources at its disposal,” he added.
On security, Bala Mohammed reminded the traditional rulers on the need to contribute in maintaining law and order in their domains through vigilance and prayers to complement government’s effort in that direction.
According to him, “While Government is collaborating with security agencies to address this and other security challenges, across the State, I would like to appeal to our traditional rulers to prevail on their people to be extra vigilant and report suspicious movements or persons to the security agencies.”
Bala Mohammed further stated that, “As we strive to invite investors to the State, we cannot afford to allow security challenges to discourage them from coming to invest in the State. I would also like to call on traditional rulers to ensure mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among their people irrespective of their ethnic, religious or political differences.”
Earlier, the Emir of Bauchi, Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu appreciated Governor Bala Mohammed for his administration’s outstanding support to traditional rulers and promised their continued support for the success of his administration.
