The National Universities Commission (NUC) has lauded the Gombe State Government for fulfilling its commitment to ensuring timely commencement of academic activities at Lincoln University, Kumo.
The commendation was given by the Executive Secretary of the NUC, Professor Abdullahi Yusuf Ribadu, during a high-level advocacy visit by the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Manassah Daniel Jatau, and the Vice Chancellor of Lincoln University Kumo, Professor Adamu Sadiq Abubakar, to the NUC headquarters in Abuja.
The outcome of the meeting strongly suggests that Lincoln University Kumo is poised to begin its academic operations soon, with preparations now well underway.
During the parley, the Deputy Governor provided an overview of the significant progress made by the state government to ensure the university’s successful takeoff.
He told the NUC ES that Gombe State Government has already secured adequate land and developed critical infrastructure, including a Senate building, lecture rooms, and laboratories, among other facilities, emphasizing that the establishment of Lincoln University would contribute significantly to the educational development of Gombe State and provide more opportunities for aspiring students.
The Deputy Governor noted that the institution would also address the challenge faced by many bright Gombe State students with excellent JAMB scores but limited access to university placements.
Dr. Jatau also pointed out that the university’s medical programmes would benefit from a partnership with the newly established Federal Medical Centre in Kumo, which will serve as its teaching hospital.
Recall that the Gombe State Government had entered into a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with Lincoln University of Malaysia, an experienced and capable private educational investor to participate in the development of learning and research activities at the institution in accordance with current global science and technological innovations for competitive and competence skills acquisition for our students.
During the visit, the Deputy Governor also presented a copy of his recently published book, A Sociology for Medical Practice, to the NUC Executive Secretary.
