Bauchi State Primary Health Care Workers have been urged to intensify efforts towards ensuring reduction of Maternal mortality and child morbidity rates across the state.
The call was made during a 5 Day train the Trainers Workshop on Quality of healthcare organized by the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency supported by World Bank Assisted Project Immunization Plus and Malaria Progress by Accelerating coverage and transforming services held today in Bauchi.
The workshop is also aimed at improving quality Health Care in the State.
Presenting an overview of the National Emergency Maternal and Child Health Intervention Centre, Dr Bakunawa Garba Bello from the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, said the essence of the Quality Care program is to improve healthcare delivery services at the grassroots.
Dr Bakunawa Garba disclosed that according to statistics, Nigeria has not made any Progress towards achieving the Social Development Goals’ target for Maternal Mortality Rate, hence the need for Health workers to be hardworking in the discharge of their routine responsibilities.
He said, despite the fact that there is increase in facility delivery and ANC attendance, Child mortality tend to be on the increase in Nigeria which leads the nation to losing about Two Thousand, Three Hundred under Five and One Hundred and Forty Five Women of childbearing age every day.
In his presentation, the IMPACT project Manager in the State, Dr Adamu Muhammad, stressed the need for commitment by every health worker in order to make the project a reality in the state.
Dr Adamu Muhammad, called on the stakeholders in the Health sector of each Local Government Area to work together in harmony towards achieving the set objective.
The IMPACT project Manager, also challenged the participants to identify challenges and provide proffer solutions for achieving effective service delivery.
He said the project is aimed at reducing the number of under Five children dieying and the number Women of bearing age dying.
Dr Adamu Muhammad stated that the IMPACT project will last for Ten years in Bauchi State to ensure that the quality of reproductive Maternal and Child Health Services and Immunization is improved within the First Five years and ensure that under Five mortality is reduced by fifteen percentage within the period.
Declaring the workshop opened, Executive chairman of the Bauchi State Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Dr Rilwanu Muhammad warned that the Agency would not tolerate any laxity that will tarnish the best practices of the health sector.
Dr Rilwanu said every facility will be getting Four Hundred Thousand Naira per quarter to ensure qualitative healthcare from the World Bank across the state.
The Executive Chairman charged the Primary Healthcare Directors from the Twenty Local Government Areas of the state, to work hard to provide the best healthcare service to enable the state to win about Two Hundred Million Naira from the World Bank.
Dr Rilwanu warned the Health stakeholders from the LGAs to desist from dragging the State back in the health sector for the betterment of the citizens, and urged them to obtain qualitative working tools in their respective Primary Healthcare Clinics.
One of the participants, Amina Balali, The Maternal and Child Health Coordinator of Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, expressed the believe that the training would equip the participants the required knowledge to enable them improve the quality of Healthcare services in their respective domains.
