Kano state government has Reiterated it’s commitment to partner with stakeholders to fight malnutrition in the state.
The Director Public health and Disease Control Kano state ministry for health Dr. Ashiru Rajab stated this during the One day Quarterly review meeting with Base Organizations and government stakeholders organised by Alive and Thrives initiative.
He said Alive and Thrives initiative is the only project working with Kano State government on Nutrition.
Dr. Ashiru Rajab commended alive and Thrives initiative for selecting Kano State among the 7 States for the implication of the program.
In his speech state coordinator Alive and Thrives initiative Dr. Ashiru Hamza Muhammad said this is the global nutrition initiative to save lives, prevent illness and improve the health and women mothers, children and adolescents in collaboration with government.
“We are partnering with Kano State government to expand strategically scale up maternal, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN) coverage in primary health care board” Dr Ashiru Hamza said.
The project coordinator also explained that, the programme would create and supportive data policy and learning ecosystem for MIYCN innovations as: multiple micronutrients supplement (MMS), Balanced energy protein (BEP) among others.
Dr. Ashiru Hamza further said, the programme is going on in 7 States including Kano state an partnering with state primary health care management board, state ministry for health and it’s counterpart with budget and planning, local government areas, UNICEF and international development partners, Nigerian governor’s forum and professional associations.
In her presentation the Nutrition officer state ministry for health Hajiya Halima Musa Yakasai said the objective of the meeting is to review Alive and Thrives initiative in accelerating MIYCN intervention in the state and to discuss on how the project to be implemented in the next quarter.
